Missouri Rush Soccer Club's Player of the Month

June 2022

Shane Williams

  1. What is your favorite thing about Rush Soccer? I have played for Rush and Coach Caution for four years and many things stand out as favorites. I appreciate playing on fields close to home that are in great condition. The extra training opportunities are great and keep us competitive. The fact that it is a large club, but has a small cohesive feeling with many opportunities and most importantly playing for a talented committed coach. Bonus: Coach Caution has great one-liners
  2. What is your favorite memory since joining Rush Soccer? I have many memorable moments. When my club merged with Rush, they were welcoming and provided many opportunities for skill and team development . Overall wins such as a tournament in Chicago, winning the Midwest Invitational this year, and finishing first in our division this spring are three of my favorites. I like playing with a team that wins with humility and takes defeat with class. I like how our team keeps it fun with breakfast after early games, hanging out between double headers, and giving roses to the mom's at the Mothers Day Tournament.
  3. What Core Value do you like the most and why? I appreciate enjoyment, respect, humility, and leadership as key tenets of our Rush team. Coach created an environment that was fun to play in while demanding respect for our teammates and opponents. Coach never dwelled on the negative, he always moved us forward with encouraging words. Playing soccer for Rush has helped me practice leadership skills off the soccer field.

Coach's Comments: Shane not only exemplifies what Rush stands for but is a coach's dream as a player. He has developed over the years at Rush to become an impactful player on the field but also a productive student-athlete. His energy and attitude are infectious and I am not just talking on the field. Understands that being a good human is just as important as being a beast on the field.  I have coached him for many years and he still shakes my hand and looks me in the eyes and says Thanks Coach!  Every time! Starts at home with a great base and family at home. A pleasure to coach the Rush player of the month Shane Willams.

Makena Fleer

  1. What is your favorite thing about Rush Soccer? My favorite thing about Rush soccer is playing with my friends and coach Bob.
  2. What is your favorite memory since joining Rush Soccer? Winning the Mother’s Day tournament my team and I worked really hard for that.
  3. What Core Value do you like the most and why? Unity, because we can’t win without being united towards one goal.

Coach's Comments: She (Makena) is one of or 2014 girls premier players being part of winning the premier division in SLYSA in the Fall and Spring. Most recently she was part of the 2014 7v7 team that won the blue division in the Rush Mother's Day tournament. Makena loves soccer and is eager to learn every practice. The best thing about Makena is that she excels in every practice and every game and has fun in the process. We loved having her as part of the YDA!

Q: What is your favorite thing about Rush Soccer?
A: I really like the club because of the coaches, especially my head coach Bob Cadwell because he’s always helping me get better and has helped me be the player I am today. The coaches take soccer seriously but they also make it fun. I like that they provide extra training and we can go up to the fields, which are really nice and well maintained, and practice anytime we want to.
Q: What is your favorite memory since joining Rush Soccer?
A: I have a lot of good memories. My favorite is when our Rush team won the Winter Classic tournament in 2021. Coach Bob said we all played really well but we had one plaque and they named me MVP and let me keep it for the entire team. I have it on my dresser. I do know that it takes an entire team to win and I really like and respect all of my teammates. They are all awesome and it takes all of us working together and playing well to win games.
Q: What Core Value do you like the most and why?
A: It’s hard to pick one because they are all important but the one that stands out to me is LEADERSHIP. I try and encourage our team to work as hard as we can when we’re at practice and listen to Coach Bob. I also ask my teammates to go up to the Rush fields and practice more.
I don’t only want to get better as a player but I also want to get better as a team because I know we’re all passionate about the game and want us to win as many tournaments and games as we can while demonstrating good sportsmanship.
I also think ACCOUNTABILITY is important because you won’t get better if you don’t hold yourself accountable. I’m always happy when I do well but I talk to my Coach and dad when I don’t do well so I can improve.

Coach's Comments:

Karson continually shows leadership on and off the field. Not only is he a tremendous athlete and top forward in his age group but Karson displays great leadership off the field. He is always reaching out to other teammates wanting to hang out outside of soccer to get to know them better on a personal level. He also reaches out to teammates to go and train on their own and work on things that can better their own individual and team performance. To be great at anything you do, you must put in the work, and Karson not only does that, but he leads others to work hard as well. He shows examples of several Rush Core Values, Leadership, Respect, Accountability, Tenacity, Unity, and most importantly Enjoyment.

Q: What is your favorite thing about Rush Soccer?
A: My favorite thing about Rush soccer is being part of a hardworking, driven, passionate team and learning the game of soccer from great coaches.

Q: What is your favorite memory since joining Rush Soccer?
A: My favorite memory since joining Rush Soccer is running off the field and hugging my dad after we won the D1 Championship last Spring.

Q: What Core Value do you like the most and why?
A: The Core Value that I like the most is Tenacity. My team and I learned early on to work hard from the opening whistle to the last whistle in both games and practices. When I give my best effort in games and never give up, the final score has less impact on my feelings after the game. Giving great effort produces great advantages.

"Lou is a very hard-working player who continues to excel due to her positive work ethic during training. Additionally, she works on these skills at home and applies them in the games. She is a very coachable player and I am excited to watch her continued growth in the game. Congratulations to Lou Lally for being named Missouri Rush Player of the Month." ~ Geoff Lorimier (Girls DOC 7v7)
