Missouri Rush

2010 ECNLRL HIGHLIGHT

Changes coming?

As you may have heard, there is a significant change being talked about amongst the federation and other organizations who are pushing for team registrations to move from its current format of birth year (Jan 1 - Dec 31) to school year (Aug 1 - July31).

Read more about the details regarding the transition to the current format, which went into effect on August 1st, 2017: https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2017/08/five-things-to-know-about-birth-year-registration

We understand the uncertainty this may bring and the questions that come along with it. We want to assure you that Missouri Rush is dedicated to providing our members with the most accurate information regarding this potential change.

The reason for this change back to school year format is being driven by leagues and colleges pertaining to recruitment as well as the trapped season. The trapped season is where players born after August 1 are in a different graduation year than the rest of their teammates. This prevents an issue when these players reach high school and again college.

As we await the decision (this is being voted on at the November 22nd board meeting for US Soccer) Missouri Rush will continue to prepare for these changes and plan for a smooth transition.

These changes will not bring about a one size fits all solution. We are already going age group by age group and evaluating the changes as it relates to the possible outcome of this new mandate.

Until we know more, please rest assured that Missouri Rush will be prepared for these changes and our members will be informed and educated on how these changes effect your child.

UPDATE: 11/29/2024

We wanted to provide you with an update on the US Soccer Federation's age group registration process.

US Soccer has made the decision to refrain from instituting a change for the fall of 2025. Citing they will allow governing bodies flexibility in the registration process of teams as it relates to birth year or school year moving forward. A full change to the registration process has not officially been given the green light yet. We have heard from USYS (US Youth Soccer) stating they will not make any changes for the 25/26 season. We are still waiting on an announcement from US Club Soccer (governing body of NPL and ECNL leagues).

For now, we will be planning and strategizing on how any change or mandate will affect our club structure and how we will be suited to manage any such change(s).
